These Organic Soapberries from 'That Red House' are one of the most natural and most cost efficient alternatives to mainstream laundry detergents. Plus they are a great Kitchen, Bathroom and Household Cleaner, not to forget a Stainless Steel Cleaner and Glass Cleaner, a Pre-Stain Remover, plus a Shampoo, Hand Wash, Shaving Cream and Baby Wash!!

For the Laundry, simply place five soap berry shells into the free wash bag provided and pop that into your washing machine with your next load. When they are agitated in the water they produce a natural soap-like foam and do a brilliant job of washing the family's laundry.

All-natural, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, and re-use those same shells again in four more loads!

You can also these for general household cleaning, just boil the shells for fifteen minutes and use that the liquid as a natural soap!

Soapberries are harvested from the Sapindus Mukorossi tree in Nepal, and are often referred to as 'soap nuts'. The shell of the fruit has a high concentration of saponin, which provides excellent cleansing properties.

Sustainably packed and dried by local communities. 100% Natural, Certified Organic by the USDA and Eco Cert, hypoallergenic, vegan. Not tested on animals.

What are Soapberries?

  • Soapberries are a natural alternative to traditional laundry detergent and fabric softener.
  • 'That Red House' soapberries are they only ones on the market that are 'Certified Organic'.
  • They are often called 'soapnuts', but they are not nuts at all. They are in fact a fruit!
  • The shell of the fruit is collected, dried and packed for use. The shell is exceptionally high in 'saponin' which is nature's soap. This saponin reduces the surface tension of the water to remove dirt and leave fabrics, soft and clean.
  • Soapberries are the fruit of the Sapindus Mukorossi tree, which grow in several different regions of the world, but are most prevalent in the Himalayas, which is where ours are harvested by small local communities.
  • By purchasing our soapberries, you are giving health care to the women of Nepal through 'Open Heart International'(OHI), an Australian based charity. TRH donate a portion of money from the sale of every soapberry bag to OHI.
  • We are an 100% Australian owned company.

Why do soapberries rock?

  • They're naturally hypo-allergenic. Perfect for those with allergies or sensitive skin.
  • Money saving. Soapberries cost around 10c per wash load (for a 1kg bag). Approximately 1/3 of the cost of chemical detergent.
  • They're RAW, VEGAN and PALEO
  • 100% WASTE FREE
  • Completely chemical free, grey water safe, septic safe and fully compostable.
  • Soapberries eliminate the need for fabric softeners as they leave clothes feeling soft and fresh.
  • Our 'That Red House' soapberries are certified organic by international certification body USDA.
  • Anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.
  • Not tested on animals.
  • Perfect for babies and children as they are extremely gentle yet effective.
  • Reduce pollution.
  • No pesticides, fertilisers or chemical treatments have been used in the growing or storing process. This ensures that nothing but 100% natural organic products are used in your home.
  • Traditional soaps and detergents contain a cocktail of chemicals, which reside in clothing fibres and can be absorbed into the skin.
  • Soapberries can be used in any area of the home. They can be used as laundry detergent, shampoo, hand wash, household cleaner, body wash and have many more applications. See our recipes page for ideas.
  • Soapberries are 100% sustainable and their use ensures that deforestation is reduced in the Himalayas.

So easy to use!!!

  • Simply add 5 whole shells (or equivalent) to the provided wash bag, and throw it in the machine... it's that simple!
  • Each set of shells will do approx 5 wash loads, depending on water temperature and wash cycle, etc.
  • Soapberries perform well in cold water but if you have a particularly dirty load, turn up the temperature on your machine to draw more soap out of the berries.

Sustainably packed and dried by local communities. 100% Natural, Certified Organic by the USDA and Eco Cert, hypoallergenic, vegan. Not tested on animals.

5 washes per set

These are the berries that keep on giving!! Not too soapy for my front loader and I can reuse the berries about 5 times before they go in the compost. Thats a full no tox natural life cycle that just keeps on giving.
Keeping them in the bottom of an old plastic spray bottle is a great workout for the kids as they can shake and see them foam up. I leave them there and just top up with cool boiled water.

Excellent eco friendly choice!!

Love that I’m using an organic plant to wash our clothes. It’s easy to use and it comes in the cute bag with a brown paper bag inside to hold the berries and two small drawstring bags to put the berries in the wash. Good quality and it works. I think this may be the smallest footprint out there for washing detergent.
