Supermarket Glass & Window Cleaners Vs Natural Glass & Window Cleaners

Supermarket Glass & Window Cleaners Vs Natural Glass & Window Cleaners

Glass & Window Cleaner...is well...Glass & Window Cleaner...right? Absolutely not! Sure, they all do the the job...but to the detriment of what? Our health, and your homes surfaces. In the Choice 2018, Glass and window cleaner reviews, I was actually shocked to find, that 7, of the top 11 rated products had made claims that their products were Ammonia free, and this report proved their claims to be false! So if they are lying to you about that, what else are they lying about... And if you are wondering why they are trying to hide the fact that Ammonia is an ingredient...it is because it is considered dangerous. Here are the concerns EWG has for Ammonia:

High Concern: acute aquatic toxicity.
Moderate Concern: respiratory effects.
Some Concern: damage to vision, respiratory effects, general systemic/organ effects, damage to vision, skin irritation/allergies/damage.

And...EWG reports Ammonia should only be used as an Oven Cleaner; Drain Opener/Clog Remover; Hard Water Stain Remover; Toilet Cleaner; Stove Top Cleaner - not Glass & Window Cleaners. No wonder they are telling fibs...Not very green, huh?

But, the worst is yet to come... Many Supermarket brands of Glass & Window Cleaners contain a cocktail of harsh chemicals including Hexoxyethanol, which has been linked to health concerns such as general systemic and organ effects, developmental, endocrine, reproductive effects and damage to vision. You can be pretty sure they all include Fragrance which can cause skin irritation and allergies, causes respiratory problems and acute aquatic toxicity and biodegradation.

But...there is an alternative!!!

What are the main differences between Natural Glass & Window Cleaners and Supermarket brands?

Most Supermarket Glass & Window Cleaners contain Ammonia, whereas Natural  Glass & Window Cleaners do not. The other main difference is that Supermarket Glass & Window Cleaners contain Isopropyl Alcohol, and Natural Glass & Window Cleaners substitute this for a more natural option; grain alcohol, which is a lot more expensive, hence the reason main stream products do not use it.

As a side by side comparison, here is a listing of ingredients of probably the most popular Supermarket brand, Windex, and following that a list of ingredients of brands stocked at Neatspiration.

The S.C. Johnson website lists Windex's ingredients as water, 2-hexoxyethanol, isopropanolamine, sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate, lauramine oxide, ammonium hydroxide, fragrance, and Liquitint sky blue dye.

Abode - Water, baking soda, sodium gluconate, alkylpolyglucosides and grain alcohol.

EcologicPurified Water, Organic Extracts of Calendula Flowers, Witch Hazel Bark and Lemon Aspen, Sugar Cane Ethanol, Organic Soapwort Herb extract, Coco Glucoside, Citrus Seed Extract; Lemon & Lime Essential Oils

Koala Eco100% Naturally Derived Ingredients: Australian Peppermint (Mentha piperita) essential oil, Australian filtered water, sugar-based biodegradable alcohol, food-grade biodegradable solubiliser.
